The Office of the Coroner practices Forensic Pathology for St. Tammany Parish. The coroner’s legal purpose is to protect the public health and meet the legal requirements of the parish regarding Forensic Pathology.
Your Elected Official
The Coroner is an elected official with many responsibilities, the most important is the investigation and certification of a variety of deaths of legal or public health interest.
Additional Responsibilities
In some instances, examination of living persons is performed for a number of reasons. Adults and children are examined to evaluate injuries and/or to collect evidence.
Dr. Christopher Tape
Dr. Tape is deeply passionate about suicide prevention, a mission close to his heart after the loss of an uncle to suicide and witnessing its profound effects on his family. He is dedicated to using his platform as coroner to advocate for mental health awareness and prevention initiatives. Human activities have changed the appearance of the natural landscape.
