Maggie is a 6 year old German Shepherd who was given to her handler when her owner left the country for work and couldn’t take her with him. Maggie was about one when Investigator Knoblauch brought her to the Louisiana Search and Rescue Dog Team LaSAR where they trained together as a team as part of the organization,. Maggie and Chris passed their certification tests in April of 2018 under the National Network of Canine Detection Services organization. At that time she qualified in buildings, vehicles, and open areas. Although currently out of certification due to COVID and her handlers multiple back surgeries, she still enjoys practicing to maintain her skills until she can be retested and her certification updated. Chris and Maggie have also had the opportunity to train twice at the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State University where a special training acreage has been set aside to train Human Remains Detection K9s to find remains in various environmental conditions and scenarios.
